The\u00a0World Student\u00a0Capital network consists\u00a0of student unions\u00a0of higher education institutions\u00a0operating in the\u00a0Capital Region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The financial situation\u00a0of international students has become significantly more difficult\u00a0in recent years. Students do not even have\u00a0money for food, and they have become\u00a0a familiar sight\u00a0at municipal\u00a0food aid distribution points. The article\u00a0\u2018K\u00f6yh\u00e4t opiskelijat\u2019 in Iso Numero describes the severity\u00a0of the situation from the perspective\u00a0of individual students.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Some international students do not have a realistic view of studying and living in Finland. The recruitment companies used by higher education institutions provide the students with an excessively positive image of the Finnish labour market situation and the students\u2019 chances of getting employed alongside their studies. The recruitment process involves several different parties and intermediaries that find it easy to wash their hands of any responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>International students are making important financial decisions\u00a0on their future based\u00a0on false information, with\u00a0some finding themselves needing\u00a0to ask their relatives, who have limited means themselves, for money for their studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Finnish society should take responsibility\u00a0for the situation\u00a0of international students already living\u00a0in Finland and help them\u00a0at least get\u00a0some food for themselves. We should cooperate\u00a0on this over sectoral boundaries. In addition to municipalities\u00a0and higher education institutions, we also need\u00a0to involve international students themselves\u00a0as well\u00a0as organisations from the voluntary sector.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>We also call\u00a0for a more ethical recruitment process\u00a0for international degree students.
