Would you like to be involved in influencing the affairs of your own university? The new Representative Council for the year 2025 will be elected again in November and as a member of Helga, you also have the opportunity to run as a candidate and vote in the elections!

Publishing the candidate lists:11.10.2024

Election days: 28.10. – 6.11.2024 (ends at 15:00 on the final day)

Election night party: 6.11.2024 at 19:00-21:00 (voting results published)

Coverall patches

This year we have three different coverall patches in the representative council. You can find the “Build your Student Union” patch, for example, from Helga’s campus tour, but the patch with colorful superhero animals are available only to members, who are voting in the elections. The third patch is intended for the members of the representative council, so register for the elections already today and collect them all!

Frequently asked questions

How can I run for office?

You  can become a candidate in the election if you 1) are studying in a degree programme in Haaga-Helia and 2) have  paid  the  student  union  membership fee  latest  by  4.10.2024  at  18:00 .  Becoming  a  candidate  is  done  by filling a digital candidate form. 

How can I form an electoral alliance?
Candidates are able to form an electoral alliance that can host up to  20  candidates.  An election agent (that does not have to be a  candidate)  must be named for the alliance. The alliance is formed by filling an official form that must have the names of all the candidates.  The digital form should be sent within the nomination period. The electoral alliance must have a  name that will be published in the election announcements.  A  candidate can only be part of one electoral alliance.  If a candidate does not join an alliance,  the candidate will be viewed as independent. The official candidate list will be published in the student union website and as posters in every campus.
How often the representative council has meetings?

The representative council has three statutory meetings each year: the organizational meeting (in November 2024), the spring meeting, and the autumn meeting. In addition to this, the representative council meets when necessary. Before the actual meetings, so-called evening schools can be organized, where the issues discussed at the meeting are reviewed and can be discussed more informally.

What benefits do the representative council members have?
It is possible to get 5 study credits per year and a refund of the student union membership fee for a representative council member if they attend at least 50% of the meetings – and meeting coffee, coverall patch, and influencing experience!
How can I apply to the board of Helga?

Haaga-Helia Student Union Helga’s new board for the year 2025 will be elected at the organizational meeting of the new representative council. More information about applying to the board will be published later on the student union’s website and social media.

How can I vote?

The  voting  is  done  electronically  during  the  election  days. You can vote in the election if you 1) are studying in a  degree  programme  in  Haaga-Helia  and  2) have paid the student union membership fee latest on 18.10.2024 at 12.00 oʼclock . Voting is done online via the digital platform of the student union.

Where can I find my candidate?
The official candidate list will be published in the student union website and as posters in every campus. You can also get to know the candidates through the election machine that will be published later.

Where are the representative council meetings held?
The meetings of the representative council are usually organized on the campuses of Haaga, Malmi, and Pasila. In this case, travel expenses can be paid for members of the representative council studying outside of Helsinki. Meetings also often have the option of remote participation via Zoom.
What is Central Election Committee?

Organ of the Student Union. The Committee oversees the election procedures of the Student Union. It also accepts the candidates and validates the result. The committee also elects hallopeds. You must be a member of Helga to apply.
