However, don’t forget us! Here you will find all the information you need to make your studying time memorable!

What is a Student Union?

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences has its own student union – Student Union Helga. Helga supports students and student life on all five of Haaga-Helia’s campuses – in Haaga, Malmi, Pasila, Porvoo and Vierumäki. All students belonging to the student union are welcome to participate in the activities of the student union. If you want to make an impact on a student’s daily life, apply to student union’s positions in the late fall. The student union will help and support you throughout your studies. The student union has four employees, but it is entirely managed by the students.

Participating in student union activities is easy and fun. There are a wide variety of participation options, so there is sure to be something for everyone. Here are some options:

1. The statutory purpose of the student union is to act as a liaison between its members and to promote their social and spiritual aspirations, as well as their aspirations for study and the student’s position in society. Helga accomplishes this by selecting student representatives for university working groups.
2. Helga organizes all of Haaga-Helia’s tutoring activities. Tutoring is one of the most popular opportunities for student participation.
3. Helga organizes a few major student parties during the year. Great examples of these: Freshers’ day, Orientation Week’s climax and Kaiwarin Wappu.
4. Helga organizes club activities. In the clubs you can play theater, learn coding, watch movies with a group or play board games. You can also set up your very own club if you have a good idea.
5. There are also two action groups under Helga. IDS and ESN Helga. IDS Helga (International Degree Students) is our action group focused on our international students. ESN Helga (Erasmus Student Network), on the other hand, focuses on our exchange students. Both action groups organize events, monitor student interests, and promote student culture.
