This year, the event will be held live after a two-year break!
What is Helga’s 8 Day May Day?
Helga’s 8 Day May Day, or Wappu as we like to call it, is an annual set of student events that lasts for a whopping fifteen days this year from the 17th of April until 1st of May! ! Helga is proud to work together with student associations and action groups to bring you fourteen days of different events that Helga finishes off with Helga’s own Kaiwarin Wappu event!
Helga’s 8 Day May Day has kept its name unchanged since its founding, even as the amount of events (and days) has grown. Event dates, event names and links to the required locations can then be found in the ‘Helga’s 8 Day May’ event.
Helga coordinates the entire Wappu entity so that each association and action group in Haaga-Helia can organize its own event day. A day that all Haaga-Helia students and Helga members can participate in!
More information about Helga’s 8 Day May Day can be found here.
How to participate in Helga’s 8 Day May Day?
In order to participate in Helga’s 8 Day May Day, you have to get yourself a May Day pass and by using it during May Day events, you can purchase event tickets at the membership price. A student will get a stamp on their pass for every event they attend.By collecting six (6) stamps from six different events you can earn yourself a Helga’s 8 Day May Day patch.
There are four official Helga’s 8 Day May Day coverall patches, and a student gets a patch based on their performance year. By collecting all the coverall patches throughout the years you can build yourself an amazing patch ensemble. The coveralls patch can be redeemed by bringing the stamped pass on the 1st of May to Helga’s tent in Kaiwaris Wappu or after 8 Day May Day from the Helga Point.
If a student collects a stamp in their Wappup Pass of each Helga’s 8 Day May Day event, they will be awarded a 8 Day May Day Diploma!
Helga’s 8-Day Wappu is organized in cooperation with Haaga-Helia’s student associations and Helga’s action groups. Some of the events are free and some include extra charges.During the events, the associations and action groups might sell their own coverall patches.
But how does Coverall Baptism work?
By participating on the 26th of April, 26.4., you can earn yourself the “Baptized” patch. “The coveralls were once the official christening event for students, where students dipped their coveralls in the Baltic Sea after shouting the coveralls oath and gained official access to their overalls.”
The Helga’s 8 Day May Day Passes will be sold via Kide.app from the 18th of March. Helga will be handing out their May Day passes during the six first events. Helga will place their tent close to the association or action group whose event is in question.
